This Company Is Saving The Environment One Ugly Produce At A Time
There are many questions circulating through my head when I think of produce. “Is it organic?” “Is it GMO?” “How long is it’s shelf life?” “What’s it’s zodiac sign?” All being completely reasonable questions, but the biggest concern of shopping organic or without much deliberation should maybe shift more to how much food is actually wasted on a fairly regular basis. Oddly enough, this question has never really crossed my mind.
As it happens, to help combat this, the only thing you need is an environmentally progressive idea and to be named Ben. Or at least that’s what co-founders Ben Simon and Ben Chesler had when they started Imperfect Produce in 2015. Environmentally, if more companies followed this same practice, almost 20% of the produce grown nationally that is normally rejected can be eaten, and more so, limit the wasted use of fossil fuels and water. Not to mention the fact that Imperfect Produce caters to organic and non-organic eaters alike. It’s the perfect notion of having your (environmentally friendly) cake and eating it too.
